General Information About Accelerated Reader

The BSSS Accelerated Reader program on the web consists of a series of quizzes on books that we have in our library, classrooms and that you may have at home. The web program also has tools that examine the student's performance on the quizzes and provides that information to the student and to the student's parents and teachers. This may seem a little overwhelming so here is some information that I hope will help clarify how the program works:

  • A.R. quizzes can be taken on a computer at school or at home on a computer with web access. Renaissance Learning, the parent company of Accelerated Reader, has thousands of quizzes available that cover most of the books our children read. BSSS students now have access to all quizzes in the Accelerated Reader Library.

  • Each book that a child reads and takes the quiz on is worth a pre-determined number of points according to the complexity and level of the book. Students earn points for each book/quiz completed.

  • Students should only take a quiz after reading and logging an entire book. They should not be taking quizzes on any other books including books that they read previously.

How To Log On To the BSSS Accelerated Reader web site as a student:

  1. Turn on your computer and start your browser (Internet Explorer or Netscape Navigator).

  2. Go to the BSSS web site at bsssmemphis.com and click the Accelerated Reader link and then click the Go To Accelerated Reader link or type the following address in your browser window: https://hosted8.renlearn.com/732471/

  3. On the Welcome to Renaissance Place window click "Student".

  4. In the user name box type the first letter of the student's first name followed by the first four letters of the student's last name. Example: Joe Schwartz is jschw.

  6. In order to take a quiz click take a quiz.

  7. In order to use the Accelerated Reader Program your computer will need to have the following two programs installed: Acrobat Reader, Micromedia Flash player.

  8. Please contact the school office if you are having trouble installing the software.

  9. With the software installed you will be able to continue by selecting "Take a Quiz". You will then be directed to a window with four types of quiz choices. BSSS students are encouraged to take the Reading Practice quizzes, but other quiz types are often available.

  10. Follow the instructions on the web site to find the quiz that you are looking for.

If you have any questions ask the teacher or call Mr. Sharabi at the school office.
